The catalyst behind pursuing the MM path was my passion for understanding complex human behaviour and my realization that businesses - based on consumer decision-making - can employ targeted strategies to provide the best product or service. My background in Psychology compliments my solid education in business, particularly in marketing and communication. I’ve learnt that it’s about understanding how the consumer thinks and using that information to tailor their experience and to communicate effectively with both large and small populations.

As a graduate of Kinesiology with an interest in health sciences, I emerged from my undergraduate studies with an appreciation for the intricacies of our healthcare system. But one statistic continues to stick with me: three-quarters of Canadian youth and adults are failing to meet recommended physical activity levels. I was motivated by this to enter the MM program to create change in this inactivity through effective health promotion. Armed with courses such as business development, leadership and marketing, I feel that I am now empowered with the skills and capacity to help Canadians make better health decisions through an existing healthcare organization.

I pursued an MM because I knew that business knowledge would be beneficial in any type of career I decided to pursue. The greatest aspect of this program is being exposed to the multitude of career possibilities. At UBC Sauder I learned life skills like communication, creativity, and networking, and being exposed to such diversity helped me realize interests I never knew I had, like marketing and market research. With my anthropological understanding and business acumen, I am able to mix both qualitative and quantitative research to produce business and marketing solutions that prioritizes human experiences.

I’m someone who loves building relationships and thrives in a diverse and a competitive environment. As an international student from Russia, the MM was my step towards turning my passion for the banking world into a career. It strengthened my knowledge of corporate finance and connected me with industry professionals through the Finance Mentorship program.

My undergraduate degree opened my eyes to community engagement and instilled the desire to be an empathetic, responsible, and impactful contributor to society. My passion for understanding people led me to the UBC MM program where I developed my business knowledge and through my studies I developed new skills to help maximize other people’s potential. The greatest value I gained from the MM was learning to work collaboratively with people from interdisciplinary backgrounds and appreciate different ways of approaching business. I am now looking forward to starting a career in Human Resources with a focus on strategic development.
