On Thursday, February 1, 2018, we will feature BCom alumna Belinda Wong, CEO of Starbucks China, as our honoured guest for the Dean’s Speaker Series.

The Dean’s Speaker Series offers a unique opportunity for our alumni and students to gain insight on the lives and careers of our most successful alumni and community partners. Join us at our 5th annual Dean’s Speaker Series with a rare opportunity to hear directly from the CEO of Starbucks China, Belinda Wong, as she shares her work experience running a coffee empire across 136 cities in Asia, as well as her successes and challenges. There will be a reception after Belinda’s presentation for alumni and students to connect and network over food and drinks.

Speaker Biography:
As CEO of Starbucks China, Belinda is responsible for overseeing all facets of Starbucks business in the market, including vision, growth strategy, people and brand development. Belinda leads a talented team of nearly 40,000 employees and manages approximately 3,000 stores across 136 Chinese cities. On December 6, 2017, she led her team to open the first Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Shanghai which is 30,00 square feet of coffee roasting and brewing.

Belinda joined Starbucks in January 2000 and has held leadership positions across a variety of business units and geographies. She started her career with Starbucks as marketing director for the Asia Pacific region, where she served in brand and category management as well as marketing, public relations and corporate social responsibility. Before joining Starbucks, Belinda was the marketing manager of McDonald’s China Development Company, where she was responsible for formulating marketing strategies and plans for the China market.

Belinda serves as a member on the China Advisory Council and the Faculty Advisory Board for the UBC Sauder School of Business. She has been recognized as one of China’s most influential female business leaders by Forbes China and Fortune China for consecutive years. In September 2016, Belinda was among 50 recipients to receive the Magnolia Silver Award by the Shanghai Municipal Government in appreciation for her outstanding contributions and support of Shanghai’s development, and was listed as among the top 50 people shaping the future of the U.S. - China relationship by Foreign Policy.
