Through the generous gift of time, resources and expertise, dedicated alumni make significant and meaningful contributions to the UBC Sauder community, ensuring that it continues to be a place of ideas and opportunity. Each year, more than 1200 UBC Sauder alumni serve in volunteer roles with the School – strengthening connections, developing skills and leaving lasting impacts in the process.

Current Opportunities

Ennovate: Final Competition

The final competition allows different high school teams to showcase their products in front of a panel of judges. This year, our theme is centred around the Vancouver Greenest City 2020 Action Plan. We are looking for judges from a wide range of specializations.

UBCMA Connect 4

A one-on-one networking opportunity for students and alumni from companies looking to hire after graduation. The event is focused on upper-year students looking to enter the marketing industry.

The Ripple Effect Conference

The Ripple Effect Conference, hosted by the UBC Social Enterprise Club, creates an interdisciplinary approach to social entrepreneurship and delivers for students wanting to learn and connect.

Date: Saturday, March 9, 2019
Time: 12:15 p.m. - 1:45 p.m.
Location: AMS Nest, Point Grey Campus

We're looking for networking delegates in the social enterprise and sustainability fields to connect with undergraduate students.

Comm 202 Networking Event

The Comm 202 Networking Event is a signature course event that enables professionals, alumni, and senior students to meet inspiring BCom students. Learn more about what interests business students, share your stories and experiences, meet other guest delegates from a range of industries and roles, and make lasting connections with future business leaders.

Sauder Summit Global Case Competition

Sauder Summit is an international case competition looking for judges for both the Internal Case Competition (February 3, 2019) and the Global case Competition (March 9-15, 2019). Judges are asked to listen to student presentations, conduct a Q&A, and rank teams after deliberations. Open to all industries and specializations.

Dates: March 11, 12, and 15, 2019
Time: Varies depending on date. No obligation to commit to all dates.

Me Inc. Conference

The Me Inc. Conference will help 200 students explore career options by hearing from established industry leaders and networking with business professionals.

Date: Friday, March 15, 2019
Location: Fairmont Waterfront Hotel

We're looking for alumni working in all fields to be workshop presenters and/or networking delegates.

Ongoing Opportunities

Mentorship

Connect 1:1 with a student or younger alumni to provide advice and guidance, and create an on-going relationship of learning, dialogue and growth.

Time Commitment: 2 hours every 1-2 months over 8 month period


Judge for Case Competitions & Presentation Pitches

Sit on a judging panel to assess and provide feedback to student teams competing in case competitions and/or entrepreneurship pitch competitions.

Time Commitment: 3 to 7 hours

Classroom InvolvementAlumni can impact the academic development of students in a multitude of ways: co-writing a company case study, giving a guest lecture, offering your company to be used as a “live client” for student projects, being a mentor for capstone projects. 


Time Commitment: Can vary from 2 hours, to 1 hour every 2 weeks

Classroom Involvement Opportunities

Marketing Applications (Comm 468)

Speaking Engagement

Share your stories and words of advice to student or alumni audiences by giving a keynote presentation, workshop or participating on a panel. Speaking opportunities exist through student run conference and club events, orientation programs, the Business Career Centre and UBC Sauder’s Alumni Engagement Office. 

Time Commitment: 2 to 3 hours

Networking Events

Aid in the professional development of students and help guide their journey towards finding meaningful work by attending a networking event and connecting with them in person. 

Time Commitment: 2 to 3 hours

Coach for Case Competitions

Each year, UBC Sauder sends teams of students across Canada and around the world to compete in case competitions. Alumni coaches play an integral in their success by attending case practices throughout the year to provide feedback, resources and knowledge. 

Time Commitment: 3 hours per week over 4 months

Recruitment & Admissions

Be an advocate and representative of the impact of the UBC Sauder educational experience as an alumni speaker or panelist at UBC Recruitment events to prospective students. Share stories from your degree and insights on how your UBC Sauder experience helped to shape your personal and professional development. 

Time Commitment: 2 – 3 hours

Career Development

Help students prepare to enter the workplace through: volunteering for mock interviews or salary negotiation workshops, hosting company info sessions/tours and recruiting UBC Sauder talent. Visit the Business Career Centre website for more info.

Time Commitment: Can vary from 1 to 3 hours.

Connect Directly with Students or Alumni

Are you willing to be contacted directly by students/alumni for 1:1 informational interviews? This is an ad hoc volunteer engagement, as students or alumni look to learning more about a specific industry, company, city or career that you have experience in.

Time Commitment: 1 – 2 hour.

Class Reunion Volunteer

Bring together your classmates to re-connect and reminisce by helping to organize a Class Reunion, with the help and support of UBC Sauder’s Alumni Engagement Office. For more info, email alumni@sauder.ubc.ca

Time Commitment: 25 – 30 hours over course of 8 months
